Mike Jacobs traded to Kansas City!

The man who looked like Mark McGwire during the ’98 season early on and Mark McGwire during the ’91 season the rest of the way, has been dealt to the Kansas City Royals (LINK). Of course, I am talking about none other than Mike Jacobs, who hit 32 home runs and drove in 93 runners in 2008.

I had a very “love/hate” relationship with Jacobs due to the way he treated a fan during the Marlins Fan Fest but the more I thought of it the more I realized that fan was an annoying, little snot who had it coming and every chance I had, more often than not, Mike was a gentleman to the fans.

Ultimately, I am glad to see Jacobs go to a place where he can DH and live up to his full potential of 40 HR/100 RBI seasons. For the Marlins, this means they will be able to move Jorge Cantu to first base and start Dallas McPherson at third, where he belongs. Kansas City fans, you are getting a great slugger at an awesome price.

Below are some photos of Mike Jacobs I took during the 2008 season. Some have been seen before, most have not. Good luck to Mike Jacobs, the Royals, and as always….

GO MARLINS!!!!!!

  1. I left a comment a couple of months ago with Tatiana about Jacobs. When I saw him play a couple of years ago (Binghamton Mets Vs. NH Fisher Cats), he was very nice to us fans asking for sigs. He smiled at everybody and took some photos. I was lucky to get him to sign my roster sheet on 2 consecutive days (I had trouble keeping track of who I had sign for me).

Funny story, when he played AA he was used primarily as a catcher. The last game I saw him play he got ejected for arguing balls and strikes on a 3-1 count while catching. When the ump ran him from the game the batter jumped out of the box and backtracked pretty quicky because Jacobs went freak nasty-verbally on the ump.

I liked the guy and wish him the best out in the baseball no man’s land of KC.

  2. I’m tyring to figure out why we need another 1st baseman or a dh when we have so maky already!!! Oh well we can always use a guy that can hit!

  3. Mario- Everything I am hearing on local radio is saying that Jacobs was moved to get Gaby Sanchez into the daily line-up. If that is the case, the Fish are going to have to decide who plays 3rd base – Cantu or McPhereson. Or, they can use Cantu as a utility player the way they have in the past with Almezaga, Andino, etc… only time will tell…

  4. WOW HE CANT BE TO HAPPY ABOUT THAT. HE WENT AN ALMOST CONTENDING TEAM TO THAT GARBAGE HEAP CALLED THE ROYALS

  5. AT ONE TIME MCPHERSON WAS ONE OF THE MOST TOUTED PROSPECTS IN THE GAME HE COULD BREAK THROUGH AND BE A STUD FOR YOU GUYS WHO KNOWS

  6. This is probably a move to open up space for Logan Morrison, who is playing in the Arizona Fall League. It doesn’t mean Morrison will make the Marlins’ opening day roster in 2009, but it makes it easier for the Marlins to eventually call Morrsion up some time during the season.

  7. It’s actually 5 1st basemen! Spring training might be kinda fun to watch. And there are far worse palces to end up then playing for the Royals!
