Razor Going After Non-Sports Market

Lately, I’ve lost much interest in sports cards thanks to one exclusive contract after another. Thankfully, I have non-sports cards keeping me entertained, although even that market has suffered after Inkworks shut its doors.

While Razor got their feet wet by producing Razor Ink Archives and selling what was left of Inkworks’ material, in 2010 they will be producing their first original non-sports set titled ‘Pop Century’.

Having gotten an early sneak peek at some of the celebrities that have already signed up, some early design mock-ups, and even a few photographs from celebrities endorsing the product, I believe it has a chance to compete head on with Donruss’ Americana release.

While the product is still being worked on and sell sheets will likely not be available until early 2010, Brian Gray, owner of Razor and a big fan of the card blogosphere thought collectors might want to help in the creative process and has even come up with some pretty awesome rewards.

To enter this contest, simply create a list in the comments section with your Top 3 Celebrity Autographs you’d like to see included in 2010 Pop Century. You may also include dead celebrities, as these days it’s incredibly easy to find documents to cut up and include into a card.

The reader with the best suggestion will win this extremely rare Razor Poker Shannon Elizabeth autograph. The two runner-ups will each win a Razor Metal Matt Wieters on-card autograph.

Contest officially ends on Sunday night.

  1. I am not sure I am allowed a second entry but I think another line up to draw attention would be:

    Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
    Malcom X
    Rosa Parks

Not sure they qualify as “Pop”, but would sure be a cool historic line up.

  2. Mark Hamil – James Earl Jones Dual Auto “Luke, I am your father”

    Lynda Carter – Wonder Woman

Not just cuts but autos, on card IN character

  3. Hmmm, I’m not much of a celebrity guy, but my three would be…

    Jerry Seinfeld
    Darius Rucker
    Billy Mays

Ha, kinda random I guess, just picked guys from TV shows or music that I like.

  4. George Clooney

Dual Auto of John Flansburgh and John Linnell (AKA They Might Be Giants)

Absolutely anybody from the cast of The Big Bang Theory.

  5. I know this one is no longer possible, but:
Joyce DeWitt, Suzanne Somers, and John Ritter. Three’s Company, the perfect threeway auto

  6. I’d love to see…. Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair and Ewen McGregor. Razor does a great job on their releases… Keep up the good work!

  7. I going with a music theme.

Buddy Holly- Died way too soon. I’m pretty sure there are not a lot of autographs of his lying around.

John Lennon- One of the most influential men in music

Joey Ramone- Led my favorite band

I could think of thousands of autos I want but I’ll leave it at that three.

  8. Kurt Cobain
    Bono
    Johnny Cash
All three made huge impacts on their respective genres and are all very popular.

  9. do you think they would be willing to make a Gellman certified autograph? after all, he is the premier spokesman for UD….

  10. 1. Big Lebowski triple featuring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman & Steve Buschemi

    2. Dumb & Dumber dual featuring Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels

    3. This one is going to have to be a cut sig, Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash. Why no one has produced this card already is a mystery to me.

  11. I’m going to cheat and put a couple of ideas in one post.

How about a Beattles quad auto?

Or a 3 Stooges triple auto (quad if you want to include Shep).

Or if you wanted something REALLY crazy, try this on for size:

Abe Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth, JFK & Lee Harvey Oswald quad cut auto.
That would be one of the most unique and memorable auto cards ever made.

  12. Top 3 Living:
    3. Seth Rogan
    2. Taylor Swift
Not a fan, but she’s really popular now…
    1. Gabriel Iglesias

    Top 3 Dead:
    3. Billy Mays
    2. Michael Jackson
    1. Patrick Swayze

Sorry for the unoriginality since they all died recently, but I think they would be neat.

  13. To the bst of my knowledge, Hitchcock and Serling don’t have any cuts in any product so if there interested in making a big splash, Razor could be the first company ever.

  14. A: Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring
B: George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein
C: G.B. Trudeau, Gary Larson, Berkeley Breathed
D: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher

  15. JKF
    Lee Harvey Oswald
    Jack Ruby

    or

    Bon Scott/Brian Johnson (AC/DC).

    or

    Bon Scott/Brian Johnson/Angus Young/Malcolm Young/Cliff Williams/Phil Rudd.

  16. My three would be the 3 major presidents, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and the current president, Barack Obama.

  17. Bob Marley, MJ and 2pac! That would be pretty sweet. All were top of there game in there music scene.

Razor I love your brand but could you please try and do on card autos or at the very lest have your people sign white pieces of paper and imbed them into the card so they look like “cut” autos. IM SO SICK OF UGLY STICKER AUTOS.

  18. Since this is a pop culture set then I think we pay tribute to some creators of pop culture taht few know about…

Harvey Ball (Created “The Smiley Face image.)
Milton Glaser (Created the “I heart NY” logo.)
Nubisbi Kocusbi. (Invented the video game Pac-Man)

Probably wont have high sale value as opposed to some of the fantastic ideas suggested above but those items were HUGE back in the day!!!

    OR
    Groucho Marx
    Chico Marx
    Harpo Marx …triple auto

or get clever and add Gummo and Zeppo too.

  19. Gandhi/Mother T/Dalai Lama

    Beatles Quad

Jack kerouac/William Burroughs/ Allen Ginsberg would be my ultimate card..

  20. How about a triple-cut auto card of Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard? (Maybe even Shemp, Joe, and Curly Joe too).

    As for modern celebrities:

    1. Stephen Colbert
    2. Bruce Willis
    3. Sigourney Weaver

  21. How about a Batman movie trilogy of Keaton, Clooney, and Bale?

Or maybe a quad Field of Dreams card: Costner, Liotta, Jones, Lancaster

  22. Here are the three I’d like to see that would sell the crap out of this product and hit all walks of life:

    Michael Jackson
    Brad Pitt
    Stephanie Seymour

  23. You want cards that will go crazy once they hit the secondary market?

    Cult Classics!
    – Mike and Joel and the bots from Mystery Science Theater 3000
    – Bruce Campbell from the Army of Darkness and Spider Man
    – Ed Wood

    The Captains!
    – William Shatner (Star Trek)
    – Patrick Stewart (ST: The Next Generation)
    – Avery Brooks (Deep Space Nine)
    – Kate Mulgrew (Voyager)
    – Scott Bakula (Enterprise)
    – Chris Pine (Star Trek redux)
and maybe some dual signed Pine/Shatner, Nimoy/Quinto

Or way not a set of all the great baseball movies actors, as many as possible (even the role players), done like a real life MLB set.

  24. How about a Quad auto card of:

    Judy Garland
    Jack Haley
    Bert Lahr
    Ray Bolger

Better known as Dorothy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Scarecrow.

  25. The Rock
    Jay-Z
    Vince Mcmahon

I am not sure if I have seen a Vinnie Mac auto before. I think that would be cool since I am a wrestling fan and also an ECU alumni (where Vince went to college).

  26. the cast of ‘a christmas story’

    the cast of ‘Mash’

    the cast of ‘Happy Days’

    the cast of ‘little house’

the cast of ‘the brady bunch’

  27. For Singles I’d Like:

    1. John Lennon
    2. Roger Waters
    3. Robert De Niro

    For Doubles, Triples, Quads, etc.:

    1. Syd Barrett, David Gilmour, Roger Waters Triple Auto
    2. The Beatles Quad Auto
    3. Scorsese/De Niro/Pacino Triple

For a non-celebrity one but one that would draw an insane amount of media attention:

    Hitler/Stalin/Hirohito/FDR/Churchill

No major media outlet would ignore that if packaged right, I’m not saying it would all be positive attention but there’s no such thing as bad publicity. The only drawback is the cost to put it together would rival the 9 signature baseball piece they did for legendary cuts a few years back with Cobb, W. Johnson, Ruth, etc.

  28. Al Pacino-Scarface auto
Al Pacino/Robert DeNiro dual auto (Godfather)
    Paul Muni/Al Pacino (1932 & 1983 Scarface) dual auto

  29. Stan Lee, Todd McFarlane, Jack Kirby

    or going old school…

James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Katharine Hepburn

  30. There is no way that you can leave Erin Andrews out of this set.

Next up would be jay and silent bob dual card. Kevin Smith Jason Mewes

    Third would be Carrie Prejean.

  31. How about another classic movie triumverant:

    Steve Martin
    Chevy Chase
    Martin Short

Who doesn’t love the 3 Amigos!!!

  32. I’d love to see a Hogan’s Heroes trio of Bob Crane, Werner Klemperer and John Banner (Hogan, Klink and Schultz). That would be awesome.

  33. Friends cast . . . .Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox Arquette, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer

George HW and George W Bush dual

Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev cut dual

  34. Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Barrack Obama

Please let me be runner up so I can get one of the Wieters cards!! If i win I’ll also give you big up ons the site. lol And yes I’m politicking here.

    – Ian from mattwietersfacts.com

  35. I’ll go with an “I’m a Child of the 80’s” trio of TV personalities who haven’t had a certified autograph card yet:

    1. Mr. T – From The A-Team to Rocky III to Wrestlemania headliner to well-respected long distance and Warcraft pitchman, this guy has it all. And whenever you hear “mohawk” or “gold chains” you think of Mr. T (at least I do). The guy had a friggin’ cartoon AND cereal to boot.

    2. David Hasselhoff – This is strictly to honor his role as Michael Knight on Knight Rider. But think of all the German fans that could be brought on board to chase this one.

    3. Paul Reubens, AKA Pee Wee Herman (and signing as Pee Wee Herman) – If you overlook his movie theatre antics and questionable taste in art, this guy’s a genius. Spend $30 on Amazon and grab the entire series of Pee Wee’s Playhouse and you’ll see it. Sure, it’s weird – very weird – but there’s something delightfully subversive about the act. Plus it had the would-be Morpheus, Lawrence Fishburne, as Cowboy Curtis.

  36. John Candy – ( with the Uncle Buck tip of the hat while sitting in the car image)
    ——————————–
John Belushi (“college” on his shirt image)
    ——————————–
Leroy Neiman (image of him with one of his sports paintings- perhaps his DiMagio painting)

  37. as a 3 card collector’s set I’d love to display :

    The Goodfellas Autograph Card Collection:
    Robert De Niro
    Ray Liotta
    Joe Pesci

  38. Sinatra is a no doubter.

a Brad and Angelina duo autograph.

and a Heath Ledger autographed card of him as the Joker but im sure this would be a licensing fiasco with “Batman” so…

    gimme Chris Farley

  39. Oh yeah, the james bond actors from all the movies like dan craig pierce brosman, the otha guy would be cool too.

  40. How about autographs of famous elves?

Paul Soles – voice of Hermey (who wanted to be dentist) from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Orlando Bloom – as Legolas from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy

    Taylor Swift – as herself

  41. Probably a little too much of a sports leaning, but I would love a triple auto card with…

Kevin Costner – Field of Dreams
    Charlie Sheen – Major League
    Robert Redford – The Natural

With all three in their garb from their respective movies. I also still like the idea of having each guy sign as their characters (i.e. Sheen signing Rick Vaughn) but I imagine that would be a licensing nightmare.

  42. How about autographs of actors from little-known (or lowly-regarded) baseball movies?

    Tom Selleck – Mr. Baseball
    Bernie Mac – Mr. 3000
Scott Bakula – Major League: Back to the Minors
    William Petersen – Long Gone

  43. My top 3:

    1. Tom Thumb
    2. PT. Barnum
    3. Houdini

Going for the old school performers here. Ild love to have one of these

  44. General George S. Patton
    Chris Martin/ Coldplay
Christopher Reeves/ Dean Cain (or any other actor that has played superman-pic on card would be the actor dressed as Superman, maybe same idea with past actors that have done Batman)

  45. #1 – John Wayne

#2 – Ronald Reagan & Mikhail Gorbachev Dual (with a piece of the Berlin Wall embedded)

    #3 – Abner Doubleday

  46. 1. The 27 Club series – the major members, anyway: Johnson, Jones, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, and Cobain. All great, legendary musicians and each would be highly desirable on their own

    2. The Day the Music Died tri-card – Holly, Valens, and the Big Bopper. Three great musicians, again connected in death.

    3. Paper Lion– a George Plimpton/Alan Alda duo auto

  47. My 3 living auto’s would be

    Sylvester Stallone
    Mark Hamill
    Loni Anderson

    Dead

    Andre the Giant
Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazzard)
    Sammy Davis Jr.

  48. 1. Sean Connery Bond fans would go crazy
    2. Kevin Smith If any movie series needs a card line this is it
    3. Mike Rowe From dc show Dirty jobs

  49. Pick just 3,I have so many autos I would like to have.

    1Bradley Cooper
    2 Ed Helms
    3 Zach Galifianakis
(the 3 guys from the Hangover)

  50. 1 -a Boondock Saints double with Sean Patrick Flanery, and Norman Reedus
    2 -Hugh Laurie(House)
    3 -Kate Hudson
