The #1 Authority on Collectibles?

1 09 2009

It’s been several days since the news broke that a handful of NBA stars were suing the Topps Company for allegedly not bein paid what they were promised. Wax Heaven and several other sources (including TMZ) reported the news immediately without making any assumptions or giving an opinion on the matter.

Since that time, Beckett has curiously avoided anything having to due with the lawsuit and instead has treated collectors to exclusive first looks into 2009 Topps Tribute and some more 2009 Topps UFC autographs. Keep in mind that this is the same company that immediately published reports of MLB’s lawsuit against Donruss and Topps’ lawsuit against Upper Deck.

So what exactly is the delay in publishing a story if you claim to be the “#1 authority” and say your blog has “breaking news”? It wouldn’t have anything to do with the October issue of Beckett Baseball now would it? You know, the one in which Topps Company gave you a first look into Topps T-206.

For the record, Tuff Stuff also didn’t cover the lawsuit.

Not a story. Nobody cares. Stop trying to get everyone riled up to further your own agenda, kid.

Mike,

You can change your name all you want but because you’ve commented here and your IP address shows it’s easy to tell you are the paranoid fool who thought I put Topps Unique together on Photoshop.

Furthermore, considering any other type of card industry related lawsuit ends up being reported on Beckett… this obviously is news.

I personally think that Beckett’s interests lie with whoever is lining their pockets on that given day.

That Exquisite case from UD was a nice perk, and I bet the Topps Unique break will mysteriously have a HUGE card come out of it.

With the amount of bullshit back-alley deals going on, it makes me wonder why I’m even involved with this hobby anymore…

Ha, Dave. You said it first!

And besides, it wasn’t Mario, but Topps employees / contractors that put Unique together with Photoshop… 🙂

I really don’t care. Other than seeing what player’s are paid, I couldn’t care less.

I’ve sensed for awhile that Beckett only publishes good things, not bad things about the industry because they don’t want to cut off their line of goodies from the manufacturers.

That, plus the idea of paying to get stuff I get from the internet for free by reading the card blogs/freedom cardboard forum made me decide to save $30 a year and let my beckett sub run out earlier this year. So far, a half year without a sub and I don’t feel like I”m missing a thing.

Mario, Can I tell you how awesome that was that you called that DOUCHE BAG out that made the unnecessary comment!?!? Maybe he should go back to his topps/beckett cubical and try to play damage control elsewhere.. lol

AJ, I normally try to ignore it but this guy has been harassing me for months!

Hey Mario,
I have some friends that can see to it that he’s never heard from again. Just give me the word and it will be done.

Mario blogs and Beckett *Chris Olds* reads and boom now the story is on Beckett.com. One blogger does make a difference.
