Upper Deck Shares Unannounced Fukudome Japanese Rookie Card

Company created Japanese version to cater to Fukudome’s huge homeland following

North Las Vegas, NV (June 4, 2008 ) – Chicago Cubs right fielder Kosuke Fukudome’s rookie card inside of Upper Deck’s 2008 Series Two Baseball release has been a hot seller in the secondary market so far. And now collectors are starting to discover an even rarer version of his RC that Upper Deck produced as a way to get the Japanese market excited about him as well. The short-printed variation has all of his text and statistical information printed in Japanese.

“Fukudome has a huge following in Japan and we felt it necessary to recognize that by creating this rare version which will likely be very popular in Asia,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s Baseball brand manager. “There has not been very much activity on them so far as many collectors may not fully realize what they have. Collectors lucky enough to pull one of these cards will have found a card that’s in high-demand with Japanese collectors in particular.”

The 2008 Upper Deck Series Two Baseball product is currently available in stores.

No thoughts on the subject? Just a UD commercial or what? 🙂

Mario A.

I was in a mad dash to break the story first.

In all honesty, it’s been so long since I opened wax that all this short print craze doesn’t affect me one bit. I am all about the singles and maybe, just maybe some 1997 wax (coming soon!).

I can think of 2,347 things I would want more than that card…

Due to the fact that you live in the land of the purple jesus, that doesn’t surprise me one bit Gellman

I saw pictures of this card floating around the internet a week or so ago, but I was under the impression that it was a Pshop job. Maybe they could focus more on the quality of the product that leaves the factory than getting cute with RC’s (see below).

Even Gellman knows the purple jesus won’t last long. At least his value anyway.

Agreed on that! Both things!
