Former Cubs Rookie Phenom Killed

Geremi Gonzalez, who came up to the Bigs in 1997 with the Cubs and won 11 games, died last night after being struck by lightning in Venezuela.

Geremi last pitched in the Majors in 2006 and went 4-2 in split time with Milwaukee and the New York Mets. He spent the 2007 playing baseball in Japan for the Yomiuri Giants. He was just 33 years of age.

  1. Struck by LIGHTNING??? Geez, that’s terrible. With all the stuff going on in Venezuela right now who would expect to get struck by lightning.
