A deceptive spokesman for Wax Heaven

Were you one of the many, many collectors who busted packs, boxes, and even cases of 2007 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects? I know I was and like many who treasure each and every one of their baseball cards, I always take an extra second or two for a card that sticks out, even if it is just a “common”. One such card is # BP14. It’s a great photograph and features young Cubs prospect, Scott Taylor.

From reading the card back you might get the feeling that Scott is in way over his head trying to compete for a Major League job. With quotes like, “boring, low-90’s fastball” and a record of 8-8 you might think this guy is just another future career Minor League player, right? While that may some day prove to be his future, it took me quite some time to find out in which organization Scott was pitching for this year. Did he advance from single-A and move up to AA or all the way up to AAA? Well, not exactly. He is currently serving a 50-game suspension for a drug violation.

It’s quite a bittersweet realization for me. After all, with its Wax Heaven-like backdrop, it stirred up lots of excitement about possibly starting another collection. For the time being, I will pass on collecting Scott Taylor but it’s a new year and he is just 21 years old. The future is bright, don’t count this kid out just yet! He could be the future of the Chicago Cubs, or he could be another Kerry Wood, minus the 20-game strikeout performance. Only time will tell…

  1. Scott has blown his chance and has been released. You would think playing professional baseball would be a big enough “high” but no…Scott needed POT! Well no one has ever accused him of being smart. You could have made it Scott….enjoy riding around dragging ballfields in Richmond…..instead of playing professionally. What a dumb ass.
