The Florida Marlins just signed Mark Hendrikson to a contract. He is 33 and get this, 6 feet 9 inches! To be honest, I have no idea who the guy is but for those of you who don’t know, another new Florida Marlin named Andrew Miller is 6 feet 6 inches. If that’s not the tallest pitching duo of 2008 I challenge you to find one.
Of course, height won’t add any wins when our only guy driving in runs is Hanley Ramirez. Besides, Miller is still young and very green (5-5 in ’07) and will have to adjust to National League hitters. Hendrikson on the other hand seems to be more of a freak show than a real pitcher (4-8, 5.21 ERA in ’07). He is reliable though, which will help during blowouts, and I expect many of them this season. At least Hanley won’t have to come in and pitch when we use our entire staff each and every game.
