Wax Heaven MOJO!!!

Eric’s intro to collecting came in 1985 and lasted almost a decade. Like many of us, he came back to the hobby in mid 2007 and for a Christmas present to himself, bought a box of Topps Sterling of his favorite player, Ryne Sandberg. Curiously, he waited till his entire family was asleep before opening the box and when he did, he found this unbelievable 1/1 autographed, 4-patch game-used relic staring at him. Needless to say, he couldn’t sleep for hours!

Asked by Wax Heaven if he plans to put it on eBay, his response was, “This card will be with me forever.”

Congratulations, Eric!

  1. Ok, I don’t deal with high end product a lot, so this might be a dumb question, but…

Do dealers sell the Sterling boxes without the black outer wrapper? How did he know he was getting Ryno otherwise?

  2. Some dealers are opening the outer wrapper and depending on the player, busting it or selling it. For example, to a Yankees fan—you might want to sell the box if it says David Ortiz and you might get some money back on eBay. Now if you get Joba, you’d probably want to open it ASAP.

This guy here bought his box on eBay but the cards inside could have been boring stuff. He got one of the better cards you can pull.
