1989 Upper Deck

12 10 2007

So much can be said about this now legendary set. We had been stuck with the same three lame baseball card companies for years; Donruss, Fleer, and Topps. When Upper Deck came out it revolutionized the hobby forever and this card could be seen booking for $13-$15 at one point.

The picture is great, the card design is amazing (by 1989 standards), and it was from Jose’s 1988 season in which he pretty much became the King of Baseball after stealing 40 bases and hitting 40+ homeruns. It was the first time in the history of baseball that the feat had been accomplished. Jose also won, unanimously, the M.V.P crown and led his Oakland Atheletics to the World Series.
