Mark Reynolds no longer sucks!

2 07 2009

Last year I was shocked to discover that a guy who didn’t even hit 30 home runs, struck out over 200 times. His name is Mark Reynolds and although he is on pace for yet another 200-K year, his powers numbers have dramatically improved.

It’s not even the All-Star break and Reynolds is 7 home runs away from eclipsing his career-high, 28, which he hit in 2008.  His season batting average is up 30 points from last season (.270), and he’s even got 13 stolen bases, along with close to 60 RBI.

Mark Reynolds plays on the Arizona Diamondbacks and is set to make league minimum for the next two seasons. With the Diamondbacks 18 games out of their division and over 10 behind in the Wild Card, Reynolds could become the next big free agent being hyped on ESPN.

Consider this: Reynolds currently has more HRs and RBIs than Chipper Jones, David Wright, and Ryan Zimmerman. So if any team can overlook his huge strikeout ratio (already has over 100), you could be looking at this season’s big acquisition.

I just hope the suddenly power-less Marlins can make a run for him.

It’s OK if Reynolds doesn’t suck anymore, just as long as the Diamondbacks keep sucking.

Sounds like Adam Dunn Jr to me. I dunno Mario, it seems like one dimensional players like Reynolds are more or less a dime a dozen in the minors. This guy is a DH type player on an NL team.

He also had 35 errors last year. Like Ryan Zimmerman and I, Reynolds went to UVA and I’ve started up a small collection of his cards.

Adam Dunn is on pace for 700 home runs if he plays 10 more years (he is only 29). That is hardly a dime a dozen player…Reynolds numbers by age are incredibly similar to Adam Dunn, arguably better then Dunn’s numbers.

Adam Dunn also hit exactly 40 HRs in each of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. This year he has 20; right on pace. Now that’s consistency you can set your watch by!

Reynolds is the reason that Zimmerman now plays 3rd; coming into UVA Reynolds had SS locked up, moving Zimm to 3rd; thus, etc….

True. Adam Dunn has hit a lot of home runs–and that’s about it.

Besides being a career .248 hitter, suspect defense and a ton of Ks have hurt his value tremendously. Why else would he have signed a lower than expected contract with the lowly Nationals during the offseason?

i agree about the ben zobrist part.. if you add russell branyan right behind him.
speaking of branyan, heres a guy whos cutting down his Ks and hitting as good of power as texiera and pena (despite being in a pitchers park) and has a way better batting average. he had a relapse last night of a dismal 4ks but he still will be at least 20 points higher than texiera at the allstar break.

and this reynolds guy needs to move to the AL, and he needs to keep hitting bombs or else hes going to be out of the game
