While I have always lived in a state dominated by football lovers, to me the sport has never grabbed my heart. Last year, for the first time in my life I watched a football game and then a month later sat down and forced myself to watch the Super Bowl. After enjoying the game and finding out I am an Eli Manning fan I thought to myself that I would be glued to my television watching the ‘08-’09 season but nothing.
Busting open a box of Masterpieces football, it is about as close as I could get to enjoying this section of the Hobby. So while I could never tell the difference between an Adrian Peterson and a Kevin Smith, there is no way to pull a Joe Montana or Dan Marino and not feel a sense of accomplishment.
These cards look great but I think they work best when used in baseball. The same goes for Upper Deck’s flagship in hockey when compared to baseball. Is it just ol’ biased Mario that thinks baseball is more photogenic than football and hockey?
As you can see from the break results, I did not pull any insane parallels like I did in Masterpieces baseball. If you’ve busted any Masterpieces than you know exactly what you are in for: beautiful artwork, a half dozen beautiful parallels and three “hits”, including an on-card autograph. This is definitely a “must-have” product for the football fan, even if he’s not a collector.
What’s your opinion of the product?

this is one set that is worth the money. Not for the game used or the autos, it is a great set for the base. Art on canvis, out of all the UD products I think this has the best potential. This should be a contender for best set of 2008.
I love this set and wish that they did something like it for basketball.
I really like Masterpieces football. I have busted 3 hobby boxes and am close to finishing the set.
I’m very glad that UD decided to take this product to football.
It’s fun for me to go through the cards and remember the exact game or play that inspired that particular card.
I think that is a great looking set, i’ve never bought a box of football cards but this would be the one I’d get. That Cutler is so sick, go Broncos
Beautiful cards, I’ve really enjoyed your breaks! I am a long time wax heaven subscriber, however this is the first time posting a comment because I am mainly a football collector. Do the cards end up on Ebay or are they for trade? I am a huge NY Jets fan and I’d love to get the Jets from this set.
Chris, none of these cards will end up on eBay.
Some of the “hits” will end up in contests and some I will trade away. I will be glad to separate all the Jets from the football boxes I busted. Send me an email when you have time.
If you happened to pull a Bob Sanders or Dallas Clark, I’d certainly be interested in those. For the record, I don’t like the Colts, but I am an Iowa Hawkeye fan for life. I’m not sure if either Sanders or Clark even has a card in the set, but thought I’d ask nonetheless.
Great looking cards! Have a great weekend Mario!
BEAUTIFUL set. This is one where I wish I saved more to do the set.
Jeff, you are one of the people who are expecting packages from me.
I will send you some Masterpieces goodies.
You are my hero.
All the Masterpieces sets are great looking. I really hope a Basketball set turns up this winter.
I don’t have much to trade, but could I trade you for the Jim Thorpe, and the brown boarder Devin Hester? Thanks
Great stuff…love the Kevin Smith! The artwork on Forte and Hester look great.
I love the Vikings stuff but are there no oversized cards in this product? I thought baseball did them the first year but I don’t follow it closely enough to say for sure. I think oversized cards would have been sweet for autos.
Zack, if I have postage money after I get rid of all the packages…I will send you the cards for nothing.
Could I send you an SASE?
And if you are giving a couple away could I get like 4 or so?
To me its the best overall set of football cards this year.
