If you grew up in the 80’s and early-90’s and didn’t watch wrestling, I’d say the odds of you reading Wax Heaven today are slim to none. Children love super heroes and was there ever a bigger hero than Hulk Hogan and company?
At 28 years of age It’s been a long time since I have enjoyed wrestling. Don’t get me wrong, I try. Unfortunately, today’s programs are absolutely terrible. Want a good example? Look at this garbage. So while I gave up on wrestling long ago, one thing I still enjoy quite a bit is movies.
Darren Aronofsky is one of my current favorite directors. His most well-known film is ‘Requiem for a Dream’ but he also received high praises for 2006’s ‘The Fountain’, starring Hugh Jackman. While I wasn’t a huge fan of his last film, I read that his next attempt would be about a “has-been” wrestler and that is all it took to hook me.
As you can see from this trailer, ‘The Wrestler’ has a mighty great chance to win an Oscar when all is said and done. It’s already won the Golden Lion Award, the top prize you can win at the Venice Film Festival.
The song in the background is from none other than “The Boss”, Bruce Springsteen.

I saw that on 411 this morning, and reaffirmed that I need to see this. I had been following it on IMDB for a while, and still couldn’t believe I saw Necro Butcher in the trailer. This movie looks amazing and hopefully it gives ROH some well-deserved media attention as well.

*Mickey Rourke* I want some of what Mickey’s on! He’s jacked! Seriously, this looks like a real good movie. Worse case senario, staring at Marisa for 90 minutes.
