It’s amazing to me just how far fake patch makers will go just to make a buck. In this case, they have destroyed a low-numbered, triple game-used jersey of Mickey Mantle, Albert Pujols, and Roberto Clemente from 2008 Topps Triple Threads and inserted the most ridiculous looking patches I have ever seen. You can see what the real card looks like by clicking HERE.
What is unfortunate in this situation is that you and I know it’s an obvious fake but to a new collector or someone looking to splurge for their loved one, they would never know the difference. Shame on eBay user ‘2006cardsbuyer’ for trying to rip off another collector.

Wow, I can’t stand fakers. This one is epic, destroying a card I would treasure forever, AND putting obscene new patches in. I am sure Mantle and Clemente pieces would be that new looking with today’s cotton/mesh jerseys.
It just goes to show that in the market today there are many scam artist who will not stop at anything to make a buck. What really is a shame is that this person is obviously not a collector, how could you even think of doing this to a card of this caliber. I could not afford this product let alone this card, to me owning the real copy would be a gem. This fake patch stuff has got to be addressed by the major companies, this will soon be a epidemic and kill the collecting industry.
The Pujols card is a fake, the triple patch card is also a fake since there were no patches issued for that particular card.
I’m going to submit a $4 Best Offer and put in there that I would have paid more if the patches weren’t fake and the card wasn’t defaced.
The auction has been taken down.
score on for the good guys
The bird patch is actually legit. I have seen several of those, some even authenticated by BGS. For whatever reason, UD decided to put some sick patches into those 03 Classic Portraits.
I don’t think Beckett authenticates patches. They’ll return cards they suspect have been tampered with if the card shows evidence but if the fake is good, you can slab it as authentic which sellers then use as “proof” the card hasn’t been tampered with when it really has been.
I don’t understand…don’t you have to have the real card to make a fake one? Are patch cards more expensive than jersey cards?
All this GU stuff drives me crazy. Give me 1985 Topps any day.
Paul, they are graded. Sorry, wrong term. These cards are pretty legit I think. Take a look.

Legit cards have been turned away while fake patches/autos have been authenticated, it means nothing to me. Plus if it’s a PSA slab, you can swap cards. I don’t buy GU period, I get enough in packs.

why does this guy have so many cards with sweet patches? seems too good to be true
These people make me so angry. When I first got back into collecting I absolutely LOVED patches. 6 months later, I almost left the hobby altogether after buying a Cal Ripken Patch from 2005 Prime Patches for $250, a Tom Glavine Patch from the same set for $100, a Hank Aaron Patch from Absolute Memorabilia for $500, and a Steven Jackson NFL Logo auto Rc for $350 only to find out that all four were fake and the sellers had all disappeared. I turned completely to hobby boxes which I found is about as much of an investment as these fake patches. I was ready to hang it up before I found Youtube and saw that I could actually watch people open the packs and would know for a fact the cards were authentic and unaltered.
