*It’s NOT Gonna Happen

Damn it, man! I really wanted to see the Cubs make it to the N.L.C.S only to send my former boy, Manny Ramirez packing for the season. You know, it’s sad that Fukudome went from being more popular than Michael Jordan in Chicago (maybe that’s an exaggeration) to becoming Cubs fans’ scapegoat. The problem is the “rookie” who was hitting over .300 heading into May, ended up hitting below .200 in August & September.

In the end, Fukudome hit .257 on the season with 10 home runs and 58 RBI, while stealing 12 bases. Sure, he wasn’t the National League’s version of Ichiro, but I think we can all agree that he is an above-average baseball player despite not getting a hit during the entire post-season.

Now, can someone explain what the hell Manny Ramirez is on? He went from putting up average superstar numbers with Boston (.299, 20 HR, 68 RBI in 100 games) to morphing into the Manny of old after joining the Dodgers (.396, 17 HR, 53 RBI in 53 games!). I don’t know what to think of all this but in the end, Manny almost single-handedly carried the Cubs into the next round with his 3 home runs and 10 RBI versus the Cubs.

Next up: Dodgers vs. the Phillies (I hope!)…

Being a Cub’s fan is like cheering for the guy right before he kicks you in your nuts!

I’m glad the Cubs are out. I wish the Red Sox had never won the World Series. After these cursed teams win a World Series they’re just another team. Once one of these cursed teams wins the World Series we stop talking about the things that make baseball so special (history, curses, etc.) and start focusing on things like a team’s payroll and how despite it being so high the team failed to make the play-offs or W.S.

As for Manny…you need to check out ESPN’s page 2, Bill Simmon’s wrote a great article about Manny and his last dark days in Boston. Marlins should have made the deal, even if just to rent Manny for half a season.

Curses are just a bullshit scapegoat for not winning. I am tired of this crap! When teams like Florida (no offense) and Tampa can put wining teams together in a relatively short time, while the Cubs are constant chokers!

Also, just to note, Fukodome did have a single in last nights loss.

Yeah, Fukudome had a hit last night. Why did someone not go to Fukudome and tell him to chill at some point in the second half of the season? Most of the second half he had been jittery and impatient at the plate. You may not see him show much emotion, but you can easily tell how rattled he was by how he looked batting. Someone needed to be like, “Relax man, just be patient, and the hits will come”. That’s his game. Taking a bunch of pitches and waiting for the right one to drive down one of the lines or into the gaps. He just has to keep his cool at the plate. He had a couple bad years at the beginning of his career in Japan before he figured it out and became the superstar that was worth the huge price tag coming off a significant injury, so I am patient and still believe in FukuMania. He’s not Ichiro, but he is a Cub, dammit! We don’t need him to be Ichiro, we just need him to be the best Fukudome he can be.

Rant mode off. ;)

I hate to say it, but when the fans started in Spring Training with the “It’s Gonna Happen” signs and praising Fukudome as the next coming of Jesus, I knew it was going to end badly. The media and the fans create too much pressure to win in the postseason. It shouldn’t effect the players, but it does. How else can you explain everyone going south in the playoffs?

During the season, the Cubs looked confident and determined. During the playoffs, they looked timid and scared.
