With Tatiana on her way to Dolphin Stadium with her cousin to see the Marlins take on the Cubs, I am home alone and ready to make the most of it. I am going to spend the next 6 hours working on my baseball card collection, preparing Wax Heaven for another contest (celebrating 300,000 visits), and pulling cards to the side for trades and thank you packages.
Stay tuned and keep checking back every 30 minutes for an update!

Update 1 @ 7:00 P.M – Finished busting a box of 2008 Upper Deck Goudey Hobby edition. Scans, review, and a video box break coming soon! I pulled at least six Sports Royalty cards, is that normal? Unfortunately, none of them were autographs but one was a very nice Cubs player.

Update 2 @ 7:30 P.M – Traded for a 2001 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia Chipper Jones “game-used” base #’d to 400 which will be going to Dayf of Cardboard Junkie who did his good Wax Heaven deed of the year by bringing me these cards.
Along with the Chipper, there will be many past and current Braves included in his lot.

Update 3 @ 8:00 P.M
Like I was saying, five freakin’ Sports Royalty cards in one box. Last year I only pulled one (Nolan Ryan) with a Beckett book value of $20. Should I run to eBay or are these cards much easier to pull in 2008?
Man, I am lovin’ that Musial!

Update 4 @ 8:30 P.M – Now I am getting really into the baseball card collection so to pass the time, check out the 2008 Upper Deck Goudey video box break! The review w/ scans comes much later tonight.

Update 5 @ 9:00 PM - I am about 50% complete. The Wax Heaven contest will go live tomorrow but you can see a preview of what the prize will be by clicking HERE. There is a reason I chose those two players but you will have to wait till tomorrow to find out why.

Update 6 @ 9:30 P.M – Holy cow! Take a look at this miniature 1993 Topps Nigel Wilson. I have seen a few of these little cards but this one has a “Joe Collector” feel to it since it’s all shiny and stuff. To show just how small (and awesome) it is, I have scanned it next to a U.S Penny.
BTW, the Marlins are winning. Woo hoo!

Update 7 @ 1:00 A.M – Damn it, the Marlins lost yet again! This live blog is now complete. Stay tuned for the contest, Goudey review, and much more coming soon!

glad you got the package.
I thought you weren’t busting any boxes until the postseason…
Anyway, I got between 3 and 5 Sport Royalty cards in the boxes in my case (not including mini’s). So the 4 you pulled are normal. Last year, there was only one per box (as a box topper). They’re worth a few bucks each since they’re short printed. The cards numbered 301-330 are super short prints, and are worth even more.
Is that a “Topps Micro”? Those were incredibly small… but I don’t think I’ve seen a supermetallicshiny one like that.
I’ve got a few of those little 93 Topps things somewhere. I remember them being so small they were hard to keep in good shape because they just went wherever they wwanted to go. I’m pretty sure at least two of mine are bent in half… I just don’t see the point. It would be kinda cool if UltraPro or someone made pages for those cards and be able to fit 40 or so to a page. “hey, look at my collection, it takes up 20 pages, but it’s sooo small you’ll need a magnifying glass for it.”
I haven’t been much of a fan of UD lately, but those Goudy cards look interesting, I may have to pick some up sometime.
Sorry to see that your Marlins lost… but hey my Braves lost too (but that’s not much of a surprise).
Sorry, I’m drunk.
There were 1993 Topps Micro Prisms. It was a 12 card set included in every factory set of Micros.
Ah ha! Micro Prisms… that explains it. I think most of my micros cards are from 91 or 92. I know I have a Cardinals team set of the 92 ones. It’s almost as if they decided the Cracker Jack cards they put out back then were nice, but just… not small enough.
Whoa, nice! Thanks Mario. I’m guessing you got an Andrew Miller in that Goudey box? If not I have one for you. You can also have that Canseco I pulled on A Pack A Day if you need it.
I didn’t know the Sport Royalty cards numbered 301-330 were super short printed. Do they all have green backs instead of black?
dayf, yeah the cards numbered 301-330 have green backs and the cards between 271-300 have black backs.
