Andruw Jones, who was on pace to have the worst season in the history of baseball, was placed on the Disabled List by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. Keep in mind this is the same Andruw who just a couple of days ago leaped in the air and stole a home run from the opposing team.
Of course, it could be the .161 batting average in over 200 at-bats that “injured” him. His once big power numbers? How’s 3 home runs and 14 RBI sound to you? Oh, by the way Los Angeles—that’s going to cost you $35 million. If it’s all the same, Andruw would like his money in small bills.
Andruw has plenty of time to visit strip clubs now…

I was so glad when the braves got rid of him.
He was a great player, but after hearing how uncoachable he was when it came to hitting and his .230 batting avg. last year I said, “good riddance”
Dodger fan here. You know what the worst part about this is: Torre has actually started Jones in place of Ethier and Kemp this year! What is he thinking?!
There is something in accounting called a sunken cost. It’s when you have already spent the money, and there is nothing you can do to get it back, so just forget about it. I don’t know who the Dodgers’ financial adviser, but he obviously does not understand this.
By all accounts Terry Pendleton is a good coach and a nice guy. It’s a shame that Andruw just wouldn’t or couldn’t listen to him. I felt bad for Jones for maybe the first half of last season because he really seemed like he was trying so hard to fix whatever it was that was wrong, but then it started to feel more and more like he wasn’t trying.
Who knows what’s going on this year.
He was fun to watch in center field, but even in his good years, it was stressful to see him come to the plate. There was very little in between for Andruw Jones, the ball either went a long way, or spent a lot of time in the catcher’s mitt.
You can’t swing for the fence, “step in the bucket,” and not watch the ball every time you swing the bat.
Even as a Braves fan, I wasn’t sad to see him go, because he wouldn’t listen to the hitting coach at all. He could’ve been a really great player (even better than he was), if he would’ve worked at it. It’s a shame that his lust for homeruns has ruined his career early.
Maybe he has a valid injury, perhaps, but I suspect this is an “injury of suck”.
