The Marlins’ season could end this week

5 08 2008

By the time Tatiana and I make our way to Dolphin Stadium again on August 17th for her 21st birthday the Marlins’ playoff hopes could very well be a fading memory. Starting today the Marlins will start a series versus the National League East-leading Phillies and from there it’s on to New York to face the Metropolitans.

The Marlins, who have the lowest salary and attendance in baseball currently sit in second place 2.5 games out of first but will face the real Marlins killer, Jaime Moyer who is 11-0 against the hard-swinging but very inexperienced Fish.

It’s one thing to root for the “underdog” but by the end of the week reality will have to set in. Either the Marlins are the lovable losers playing 1,000 times better than they should have or we are the real deal contenders who have a legitimate shot to go all the way.

One thing is for sure, no matter what position we are in whether we are in first or last, the stadium will always look something like the photo below. An abandoned stadium where two championships have been won in just over a decade’s time.

Shame on you, Floridians…

I never knew that an 80 year old pitcher still has success against teams…

Dude, I’m just as nervous about my Mets chances against your fish as you are, vice/versa. Could be a bloody week for the NL East all around.

Can’t blame Marlins fans… they have two of the sleaziest owners in all of pro sports (coming from an ex-Expos fan).

As a Phils fan, I am much more scared of the Marlins at this point than I am of the Mets.
