I am not taking any credit for the last week but after pointing out Ben Henry’s post of him asking for donations all hell broke loose in the world of sports card blogs. To be honest, I was looking to remove that Pay Pal link for about a week and seeing his post about adding a Pay Pal link gave me the idea to poke fun at Ben Henry. I believe that if you read my post there was no real harm done on my part.
Over the next few days more and more posts on the subject kept popping up. Below is a list of some, if not all of them posted in a 5-day span.
Against:
Money Talks – Sports Cards Uncensored
TBCB We Hardly Knew Ye – Treasures Never Buried
Pro:
Friday Night Negativity – Cardboard Junkie
Open Letter To the Masses – Indians Baseball Cards. Always
The Evil Pay Pal Donation Button…So What? – Bad Wax
Weekend Comments or Why I Couldn’t Sleep – Topps Baseball Card Blog
For the record, I have nothing against The Baseball Card Blog. I stopped that “beef” a good 4-5 months ago. In fact, I have had his link on my Top 7 for even longer than he’s linked to Wax Heaven. It’s clear he is not going to retire anytime soon like he told us a few months back and that is not a bad thing. Having another guy writing about baseball cards is not a terrible thing especially someone with the influence Ben has.
Still, I am hoping that this time around Ben can stick to his posting schedule and not abandon his readers like he did last time. We all have busy lives but that hasn’t stopped Gellman, Dayf, or Chris Harris from providing interesting, weekly updates on this hobby we love.
Welcome back, Ben. It’s been a while but I have faith you won’t let us down.

Quit causing drama you troublemaker!
People dont seem to get that people like me arent pissed because he has a donate button. We are really angry because he wants money for doing the things we would love to do for nothing. Being a muse in this hobby would be enough for most of us, that would be a mission accomplished type of thing. Yet, for some god forsaken reason, he has to say that he now “deserves” donations. That is complete arrogant crap.
ANNNNNNNND, this is far from the first time he has done it. Thats why I stopped reading his blog – elitist bullshit is not my idea of fun unless I agree with said bullshit.
Hi. About the button and the post about the button: I appreciate the comments and criticism. The comment above is correct, and I’ve acknowledged that what I wrote was tactless, uncalled for, and most of all regrettable.
As to the point above that I’m ‘not going to retire anytime soon’, if you read the post on my site about that, I wrote that I will continue through the end of the year, then diminish my role as sole writer for 2009 and beyond.
Now let’s get back to writing about sports and cards.
Thanks, Ben
This is the most commotion I’ve heard of in quite a while. I sort of hope all this will die down a bit though.
i don’t think its bad to have one. as long as it is used to make the blog better and benefit readers.
Mario,
In a Charlie Brown (wishy washy) kind of way, I mentioned in my post that I was not against the donate button, but I was not to fond of the reasons he gave to put it on there. In a sense, I see it the same way Gellman at SCU does. It was arrogant in thinking, that’s what bothered me about it.
The fact that the baseball card blogging community is still talking about it only shows how much influence Ben has in it.
Sincerely,
JayBee Anama
