Julio Castillo and the “wild pitch”

26 07 2008

By now just about everyone has seen this crazy Minor League brawl between the Peoria Chiefs and the Dayton Dragons. After things died down, Chiefs pitcher Julio Castillo was picked up by the police and arrested for felonious assault, held on $50,000 dollars bond, and ordered to surrender his Visa. You see, Castillo is a resident of the Dominican Republic.

The story goes as follows, Julio was involved in the “basebrawl” and threw a ball into the dugout at one of the players but hit a fan. The fan was rushed to the hospital and treated for their injuries. Think about this for a moment. What if Julio hit a child? He could have killed someone and for what? A stupid, worthless Minor League game.

I don’t know about the rest of the world but I am perfectly OK with Julio rotting away in jail and serving a one year ban from playing baseball. The thing is, he’s facing a maximum of eight years and a $15,000 dollar fine. Of course, he’s got lawyers working hard for him so there is no way he gets the maximum sentence but baseball should take care of Julio and the other offenders as soon as possible.

You can see Julio’s mugshot HERE.

I should get a 1-year ban for bad Photoshop!
