I got two boxes of ‘08 Allen & Ginter reserved for me and while the base cards look amazing, the relics look pretty damn sweet, and some autographs are top quality, cards like the one you see below have me terrified of what my $200+ dollars will yield.
The autograph I am featuring today is of Andrew Farina, the world champion of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’. I am being dead serious. I am sorry to all the professional Rock, Paper Scissors players of the world, but c’mon!!!
Another autograph from the set and currently featured by Beckett.com is of Marcus Henderson, a guy 99% of you have no clue about. If you are that 1%, good for you but to the rest of the world he is a failed Metal guitarist best known for being the man behind the video game series ‘Guitar Hero’.
Now, while I am in no way knocking his amazing skills, there are many other guitarist that could have made the autograph a lot more desirable (and valuable). Obviously Slash of Guns n’ Roses comes to mind but many others, too.
Don’t even get me started on Billy Mitchel’s Allen & Ginter autograph. If you don’t know Mitchell, just check out his Wikipedia page where he is described as the “greatest living arcade player of all-time”. Here’s the problem, he is still playing games from the early 80’s! That’s like me completing a set of 1989 Upper Deck and bragging about it to guys collecting Bowman Chrome.
I know the whole idea behind Allen & Ginter is that it’s not just sports but I think the guy in charge of the final checklist for autographs might be looking for a new job soon.
Sorry sir, Wax Heaven is not hiring.

I hope you pull a good one! I went to the local store and bought 16 packs and got the two relic cards…. Smoltz and Granderson not bad and I love the cards in general so I’m not going to complain a whole lot but had I pulled a crappy auto I might have been a bit upset!
Funny, it is pretty weak. In fact, Topps offered an auto spot to me, but my hand cramped up halfway through the signing and they bailed.
yeah… i was excited about A&G coming out, but I don’t think I’m buying any now.
I don’t want to waste my time with cards of some of those random people.
Hey Mario - I saw Billy Mitchel at the Sam’s Club in Coral Springs this past weekend. Kind of funny… On a serious note, if you want to be entertained he was in a documentary called ‘The King of Kong’. It’s pretty interesting to see how his life has revolved around competitive gaming and like many of the other things that we grew up on many still have somewhat of a cult following. Anyways, it was a good film if you get the time to watch it.
Funny, I use to live in Coral Springs on Nob Hill & Sample Rd. way before Wax Heaven and being married and stuff.
On his Wikipedia page it states he now lives in Hollywood, Florida…which is 10 minutes from where I stay now, Cooper City/Davie.
It seems like Topps has run out of ideas to put on autographs. This maybe totally chauvanistic, but how about a Topps A&G autograph insert featuring the Top 100 Hottest Women or something? That would go over well.
No matter how ridiculous the non-baseball champion is, generally those autos and relics are short printed and attract attention from non-card collectors so they fetch higher prices if you’re selling. If youre just collecting though and not trying to make a buck, an autographed of the champion hot dog eater might not be that great a pull.
If you have ever watched Billy Mitchell in King of Kong, he is the perfect anti hero.
Ok now I have seen it all. Please check out this auction on Ebay item # 160265146995 are you kidding me?
ABRAHAM LINCOLN 2008 ALLEN GINTER HAIR RELIC 1 of 1 1/1
SUPER RARE PULL REAL PIECE OF LINCOLN’S HAIR ONLY ONE!!
Have a Excellent Weekend…..
Somehow having a piece of someone else’s hair just feels wierd to me, even if it is Abraham Lincoln.
At least these autos are totally lame, unlike the autos in UD Spectrum (like the ex-keyboard player of Whitesnake), which were only 95% lame. It kind of adds to the novelty of the product.
That said, I’m not going to be paying a premium for the autograph of someone who’s roughly as famous as me.
I’m offically the Billy Mitchell super collector, so if anyone rips an auto, keep me in mind. I think the initial $300 is above market value though, i gaurentee i’ll see that price fall.
