Something tells me that next season Dan Uggla will not be invited back into the All-Star Game. In what was supposed to be his night to shine in front of the entire world, Uggla had perhaps one of the worst games ever at an All-Star Game. Not only did he make three errors (a record) but he also went 0-4 at the plate with six runners left on-base and three strikeouts to his credit. In the end, the National League lost in the 15th inning by a score of 4-3.
So as is usually the case, the negativity on the Internet forums is at an all-time high and this time against Dan Uggla. I hate to say this but big fucking deal. I don’t care what George Brett told you in the locker room, this exhibition game is absolutely worthless. In the end, half of these guys will go back to work tomorrow to teams with no shot at the playoffs and the few who are on teams in contention…if your excuse for not winning it all in a few months is because you lost the All-Star Game and didn’t have home field advantage, well you are about as pathetic as Jose Canseco in a celebrity boxing match.
As for Dan Uggla’s terrible night. He is going to be a free agent soon and I am certain anybody who is angry today would be head over heels if you could pick him up for your team. This guy was thrown away by the Arizona Diamondbacks a few years back and picked up for next to nothing by the Marlins and so far this season has 23 home runs, 59 RBI and 25 doubles. His story may not be as dramatic as Josh Hamilton’s but he is the ultimate “underdog” in the National League and will probably break the Second Baseball single-season home run record (along with Chase Utley). if the Marlins stay in contention, he will be in the running for something much more valuable than a great All-Star Game performance.
Can you say Most Valuable Player?

His name is STILL Dan Uggla!!!
While I won’t go so far as F’ing Jesus did, (which by the way, was the most insanely retarded comment I’ve ever seen on here), I do have to say I was pretty pissed at Uggla last night. I distinctly remember cursing at my television. When you take Hanley’s throw into account, it wasn’t the greatest showcase for the team from Florida on the national stage.
That being said, there’s a whole list of guys who shouldn’t have been there, but Uggla and Ramirez were not on that list. Kosuke Fukudome is. Cory Hart is. Brandon Webb, Ryan Dempster, and Scott Kazmir all just pitched on Sunday.
That’s why all this “Now it counts!” nonsense is just that, f’ing nonsense. It’s an exhibition game. It always has been. I had no idea the game went 15 innings until I woke up this morning, because like most people in this country, I had to be up and out of the house by 6am.
Every other sport in this country decides home-field advantage by looking at which team had the best regular season record. What the hell is the point of playing 162 regular season games if that doesn’t count for anything. What if you get to the World Series and the wild card team that won 86 games is hosting the division winner that won 100?? It’s not about being able to win a World Series game on the road. It’s the fact that you are potentially taking a World Series game away from the team and the city and the fans that deserve to possibly have 4 games in their home park.
I would just like to go on record now as saying I will personally celebrate when Bud Selig is no longer the commisioner of Major League Baseball, and you’re all invited to watch the EXHIBITION GAME that takes place during the All-Star break.
I haven’t seen that many secondbaseman errors @ Yankee Stadium since Chuck Knolblach played there. At least Uggla didn’t hit Keith Olberman’s mom with a wild throw!
Yes, MVP…of the AL in the All-Star Game. Man, that was a pathetic showing.
Yes, it was terrible but it was just ONE game.
One game that meant nothing.
Now if it was the playoffs…..
As an A.L. fan I was very pleased by Dan Uggla’s performance last night. And I’m probably going against the majority opinion here, but I love that the All Star game means something now. It’s great to see the players taking it seriously and going all out to try to win. It used to be a joke and players would go out of their way to not play hard. If it took putting home field advantage in the World Series on the line to motivate the players, then so be it. That works out very well for fans of A.L. teams!
The game does mean something. The team with home field advantage has won 18 of the last 22 world series.
I’m not a Dan Uggla fan, but the fact is we’ve all had days like he did. To his credit he didn’t lose it and kept his concentration. While I think that the calls as errors were appropriate, they all were very difficult plays. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. The drama created some of the best parts of the game. In the long run his performance will probably be forgotten.
All this arose basically because they called the one all-star game a tie, how stupid was that?
Uggla is the man, regardless of how he played in this should be exhibition. He deserved to be there, and that third error wasnt even something that could have been avoided.
As for being one short of the “golden sombrero,” I want someone else to tell me who could have hit that sickening curve from Soria. Jesus, I replayed that pitch around ten times just to make sure Soria was actually human when he threw it and not some weird sort of pitching robot.
All Star games are fun and cool to see, but they should never…..
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVAR
…count for anything.
give dan uggla a break people,,he is a good player but he was in a bad day,,it could happened to anyone…
I hate watching All-Star games were players I like have a bad game. I remember the game in Baltimore where a mock chop broke out when the Braves on the team did badly.
This Now it Counts shit has to go and some contingency plans need to be made for extra innings. Howcome this crap wasn’t a problem from 1933 to the ’90s?
The ridiculous hop on that last error, man, it just felt like the baseball gods were just f*cking with him with that. What did he do to deserve that? Just unreal… :/
