I bitched and moaned and now the unthinkable has happened. Over the last 2 days there have been some major changes to the Florida Marlins roster, line-up, and even rotation. For starters, our most reliable guy early in the season, Mark Hendrickson is now in the bullpen. Mark started the season 7-3 while Ricky Nolasco and Andrew Miller were taking their bumps in every outing. Lately, he’s been our worst starting pitcher and now he finds himself with long relief duties.
Joining Mark in the bullpen is 21-year old Ryan Tucker. Ryan won his first game last month but has been hit hard since then. There have also been rumblings around the Marlins site that he might take over Kevin Gregg’s closer spot. Hallelujah!
Dominant, 6′8″ Chris Volstad takes Mark’s spot in the rotation and on Thursday, Josh Johnson takes over Tucker’s spot. Johnson had a great 2007 season when he went 12-7 and was making a bid for the Rookie of the Year crown before going down with a serious injury. He’s been recovering from Tommy John Surgery and has not pitched since last year.
So as of now it appears the rotation goes as follows: Scott Olsen, Ricky Nolasco (10 wins!), Chris Volstad, Andrew Miller, and Josh Johnson. Not a bad combo, if I do say so myself.
To add to the good news, rumor is that John Baker has been called up from the Albuquerque Isotopes to take over for Matt Treanor, who is out with an injury. Matt is one of my favorite Marlins but the truth is that he can’t hit (.246, 2 hr, 18 RBI) so hopefully Baker can come through for the Fish where it’s most needed, at the plate. Mike Rabelo has already failed to take over catching duties and it’s clear Paul Hoover is going nowhere fast so it will be interesting to see how this goes.
Philadelphia, I hope you enjoyed your stay on top. If I were you, I’d take a picture cause in a month’s time you will be under the Fish where you belong!

What? I thought a couple days ago you gave up on the season?
I thought all was done but I can’t help but get excited about the changes. Hopefully Cameron Maybin and Dallas McPherson our on their way, too!
Mario take it eazy on my Philadelphia Phillies.
I’ll send you a cheese steak from Tony Luke’s?
Be well my friend.
Do you mean to tell me that another place besides Subway makes Cheese Steaks? Blasphemy!
You think Traynor can’t hit, you should see Maybin at the plate. He is a whif-o-matic in Carolina.
Chemgod, I have heard stories about his K’ing numbers but I also heard he’s improved a lot. At least we know he can crush home runs.
That picture makes me want to cringe, ouch
OMG MARIO ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SUBWAY? Please if you and your wife ever make it up to philadelphia I will treat you both to the best cheese steak in the city!!! Deal?
only someone from philly would think a sub with chez wiz on it would be good!!
All I can say is… OUCH. At least the Good ol’ Nationals are keeping the Braves in 4th.
Oh and Mario… Subway Philly cheese steaks?? Please tell me you’re kidding… Some things are too pure and holy to make fun of and a real Philly cheese steak is one of ‘em.
Paul…. you just made me buy plane tickets to fly up there! I totally want a REAL Philly Cheesesteak.
Can’t you just FedEx Overnight one? I really wanna try one.
That picture is an awesome balancing act.
