Jumping on the Devil’s bandwagon!

6 07 2008

Goodbye Florida Marlins, your pitching staff is a joke and half of your hitters can barely hit above the “Mendoza Line”. I am sick of Taylor Tankersley. I am fed up with Fredi Gonzalez. I am through with this weak pitching staff.

Hey, Jose Canseco once played for the Devil Rays, right? This was totally meant to be. I even heard they have a Third Basemen who can hit, just like Mike Schmidt or at least Scott Rolen. He is a little dull, though. Come to think of it, the entire team is kind of boring and I don’t think I can get past the whole annoying “cowbell” thing they got going on.

Woah, wait a minute! Look at Jorge Cantu’s numbers, now look at Evan’s. You know what, I think I’ll stick with Jorge and my pathetic Marlins. I just can’t ignore the pain any longer. Who knew it would hurt so much to be a baseball fan?

Evan Longoria

I almost thought that you were going to jump on the Rays bandwagon! But you think that Evan Longoria is dull and the team is boring? Oh my. I’ll just say that I disagree with you in the strongest possible way :)

You should definitely stick with your Marlins though. They are only 3 1/2 games out of first place, which is closer than Boston is. And I don’t think any Red Sox fans are giving up. And they’ve already won two World Series. You gotta be patient. It’s a lot of fun to root for a young team that may not be great yet, but can develop into something great within a few years.

Also I’m glad that Cantu is doing so well, though his .810 OPS does pale in comparison to Evan’s .885. I still have many fond memories of watching Jorge play for the Durham Bulls and the Rays.

Also disagree with you. Why would you even think about joining the bandwagon? Sticking with your team through the tough times is what makes you a true fan.

Also, isn’t Longoria only a rookie?

My friend, place yourself in the shoes of a Pirates fan, as I am!

Or as a Mariners fan. Here is a franchise that has an owner that has never been to a major league baseball game, spends over $100 million per season on the likes of:

Richie Sexson ($14 mil)
Jose Vidro (8.5 mil)
Jarrod Wasburn (9.85 mil)
Miguel Batista (9 mil)

plus it just resigned Kenji Johjima (hitting under .200 at the time with Jeff Clement waiting in the wings) for a 3 year $24 million extension.

True, it must be agonizing to be a fan of a small market team with limited financial resources. Rest assured, it is even worse to be a fan of one who squanders theirs for garbage.

I’m a Braves fan, but I’ve enjoyed wathcing the Rays play this year.
They have a young, talented squad that looks like they are having a good time when they’re playing.
I just wish ESPN would show more of their games on tv.
