“The Natural” heading to the Minors

4 07 2008

Talk about jinxing a guy!

Just a couple of years after Sports Illustrated called him “The Natural”, slumping Atlanta Brave Jeff Francoeur is heading to AA Mississippi.

In 2006 Jeff crushed 29 home runs and 103 RBI at 22 years old but his power numbers went down the following year and this season he had managed just 8 home runs and 41 RBI in 334 at-bats, along with a .234 batting average.

Jeff is just 24 years old so there is plenty of time to make up for lost years but I think it’s safe to say he is not the “Natural” and perhaps never was. I still don’t think he is the next Kevin Maas, though.

Neyer just wrote about frenchie. He hasn’t given up on him yet. While his numbers are definately down this year, Neyer is attributing it to bad luck. I like Neyer and I like his blog. Whatever his position he usually makes a pretty strong argument, and it’s difficult to disagree with his numbers. He has spent years thinking and writing about metrics.

But if you ask me, that’s a hell of a lot of bad luck for one guy.

Good. Now call up Lemmer to take his roster spot, trade Tex and shoot Hampton and we might be right back in this thing!

As a Braves fan, I think it’s a good idea. Sure, he’s a fan favorite and those who are getting ready to watch the Braves tonight may not be happy, but in the long run it’ll do him some good.

Get Jones and Escobar healthy again, get Frenchie’s swing back and make a run at it in the second half. We gotta shoot for the wildcard this year I’m afraid, but it’s not too late.

I hate it for Frenchie but I love it because I may be heading back to a MS Braves game soon. Maybe I can get some good autos to post…
