The Marlins wave goodbye to first place

31 05 2008

Well, we had a great run but when you are up against three teams with Yankees-like salaries (Braves, Mets, and Phillies) it’s tough to stay in the running. Tonight against the Phillies our ace Mark Hendrikson gave up ten runs while star players Chase Utley & Ryan Howard homered to ruin our night. What made matters worse is that Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez left the game early with an injury. No word yet on how serious it was.

We have two more games against the Phillies and then a series against the very hot Chipper Jones and the Atlanta Braves. Unless our pitching can match our hot bats, we could be in third place by early next week.

Great job by the photographer in placing Utley. He looks like he has a frizzy mullet.

I’m rooting for the Phillies. Sorry. But the Fish managed to win last night. Rubber game today.
