Rare photo of the Bash Brothers

13 10 2007

This is a great and rare photo of the Bash Brothers, found on Ebay of course. Look how Big Mac tried to make himself the main object in focus by placing himself 2-3 steps higher than Jose. Obviously, it didn’t even phase Jose.

The Baseball Card Hall of Shame

13 10 2007

It’s been years since Jose played a major league game but today the baseball card industry is looking to make money from poor nostalgia-driven collectors. Hey, what do you think this blog is for?

1987 Topps has a great card for Jose. In fact, it has already been featured in this blog. Unfortunately, Topps doesn’t know that lighting never strikes the same design twice because they released this horrific-looking Jose Canseco-retro piece of shit card in their critically-acclaimed 2005 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites set.

You could blame the photographer for snapping a picture of Jose looking away from the camera. Why the hell does he look so sad, anyways? Maybe it’s so bad because Jose’s “Boy-Stache” is like two days old in this pic or maybe it’s just bad because it plain sucks. Who knows? Just stay away from it.

Ugly, ugly, ugly.

1990 Topps

12 10 2007

This was not a great set but for some reason this card holds a special place in my heart. Maybe because it was one of my first Canseco cards or perhaps because it had such a “classic” feel even back in 1990. Nonetheless, it is pretty much worthless as far as price is concerned.

Sweet!

1989 Donruss

12 10 2007

This is where it gets bad. I must have close to 50 of this Donruss Jose Canseco. It would have helped to have a halfway decent design or even a good photo—but no, nothing.

Nothing.

1986 Donruss ‘The Rookies’

12 10 2007

This was Donruss’ set of late-season call-ups and traded players which came out after the 1986 season. This card is un-inspiring at best. It’s also dark and boring but I have seen it book for as high as $20.

Boring....

1988 Topps

12 10 2007

This is a great portrait of Jose, a year before becoming a full-fledged superstar. This Topps set was known for having amazing photography but because so many sets were produced you can find this card for super cheap.

1991 Fleer Pro-Visions (Insert)

12 10 2007

You gotta give it to Fleer for coming up with great innovations in baseball cards. True, Donruss’ Diamond Kings was first in the whole cartoon/artsy drawings of baseball players but this one upped Donruss by 1,000! This card is a classic which can be picked up for way under a dollar these days.

If you weren’t a Jose Canseco fan by 1991, this card usually did the trick!

Badasss. Plain and simple.
